Rayburn Heatranger 680KCD is the perfect choice for energy conscious households who are not able to access mains natural gas
(01/06/2010)
Rayburn has launched a new oil-fired central heating range cooker with an exceptionally energy efficient A-rated condensing boiler. With efficiencies of over 92% and a central heating and hot water output of 24kW, the Rayburn Heatranger 680KCD is the perfect choice for energy conscious households who are not able to access mains natural gas.
The Rayburn Heatranger 680KCD has the largest rectangular cast-iron hot plate on the market, two large ovens and the condensing boiler powers up to 20 radiators, as well as delivering copious amounts of domestic hot water.
Designed, engineered and made by AGA, at its world-renowned foundry in Coalbrookdale, the metre-wide Rayburn Heatranger 680KCD is a perfect choice for any kitchen – from a country cottage to a larger house. Its size belies its excellent efficiency and it gives homeowners a range cooker which produces wonderful tasting food, control over their fuel bills and plenty of hot water.
The Heatranger 680KCD has two independent burners – one for heating and hot water, the other for cooking. To encourage fuel efficiency and energy saving, the Heatranger 680KCD has an Eco mode for the boiler to ensure it runs at its optimum efficiency of over 92%.
The Heatranger 680KCD is also ideal for linking up with a wide range of renewable technologies which may include an Aga wood burning stove, solar thermal, and heat pumps. In the future, an engineer will be able to easily convert the burners to be used with bio-oil, currently being trialled across the UK.
The Rayburn Heatranger 680KCD has two deep ovens – the larger main oven (47 litres) with plenty of room to cook a 28lb turkey, and the lower oven which has a 34 litre capacity, and is half the temperature of the main oven. The ovens’ cast iron construction uses conduction, convection and radiant heat (no naked flame or element) making the heat incredibly even and produces both beautifully cooked and nutritious food.
The main oven, which is 16% larger than previous models, has several settings – including roasting, baking or simmering – and thanks to its full venting, flavours of different foods will not taint others. It also has four zones, from grilling in the top part of the oven, baking in the middle zone and frying on the floor of the oven – which also works well as a pizza oven. The main oven is also wonderful as a slow-cooker, allowing cooking at low temperatures which is perfect for casseroles and curries, soups and stews.
The cast-iron lower oven, which is 27% larger than previous Rayburn series, operates at half the temperature of the main oven, again making it perfect for slow-cooking, as well as steaming vegetables, rice and puddings. Up to six Rayburn pans can be stacked at the same time in the lower oven. Naturally the lower oven works well for warming plates and dishes and acting as a warming cupboard. Using both the ovens enables foods requiring different temperatures to be cooked at the same time.
The hotplate for the Rayburn Heatranger 680KCD is the largest rectangular hot plate on the market and can happily accommodate eight pans at once. It has a one-piece construction and cooking temperature is easily controlled by simply moving the pans. The hottest zone – for boiling – is on the left hand side of the hotplate, and the coolest – for simmering – on the right. Saucepans with suitable flat bases can also be left to cook at a slower rate if they are left partially on the hot plate.
The cooker has a single control panel behind the top left door. The cooker can be controlled manually or set to come on automatically, ensuring the ovens are at temperature when desired. Separate controls are fitted by the installing engineer to programme the heating and hot water, in a very easy and user friendly way. The timer can be programmed over 24 hours a day, seven days a week, allowing the Rayburn owner to set the appliance exactly to suit their lifestyle and enabling them to keep their fuel bills down.
All the temperature functions are now digitally controlled from a dedicated central CPU, ensuring the main oven will reach cooking temperature of 200°C in less than 40 minutes – keeping pre-heat time to a minimum. Thermostatic electronic sensors monitor the oven temperatures to ensure a constant cooking temperature and thanks to the sophisticated control unit, in the event of any problems, will alert the homeowner.
Simple installation and servicing
Backed by the HHIC (Heating and Hot Water Industry Council) Benchmark scheme, the Rayburn Heatranger 680KCD has been manufactured with the installer and service engineer in mind. The appliance has been designed to fit the standard 1 metre gap for range cookers and does not require a plinth. Some of the heavier cast-iron parts can be removed to make transportation easier.
Thanks to its unique construction, the Rayburn 680KCD is easy to maintain and service. The two independent Ecoflam burners simply slide out of the appliance for servicing and there’s no need to disconnect them from the oil line. The burners use standard industry spares which mean parts are readily available. If one burner should fail, the operation of the other burner will be unaffected. For diagnostics, there is a full fault code analysis function, alerting the engineer to the problem quickly. The hotplate and the top plate can be removed easily as they don’t form a structural part of the appliance.
To ensure the appliance is running at maximum efficiency, the combustion chamber insulation can be replaced easily from the top of the cooker eliminating the need for a major strip down. Baffles are located to enable easy access from the front without having to lift the hot plate.
